Hip, thigh & groin injuries

General Advice

Many hip, thigh and groin injuries can be effectively self managed with the help of expert advice from a Chartered Physiotherapist / Physical Therapist.

Hip, thigh and groin injuries are common in sports such as football, running, rowing and cycling.

  • The most common groin injury is a groin strain. This involves one or more of the three adductor muscles - adductor longus, magnus and brevis. Remedies for groin injuries include stretching, strengthening and muscle imbalance exercises.
  • Hip problems can be arthritic changes affecting the articular surface of the joint
  • Thigh injuries most commonly involve sprains of the quadriceps or hamstrings muscles.
  • Groin pain is common during the later stages of pregnancy due to changes in the pelvic ligamnents
  • Groin hip and thigh pain can be referred from a problem in the back.
  • Every injury is unique, so self managing your hip thigh or groin injury doesn't necessarily involve following a standard set of exercises. However we encourage you to first explore our general advice

To greatly improve your chance in succeeding to self manage your injury, our expert team of Chartered Physiotherapists / Physical Therapists can help. You can choose a physio with the right specialist skills who can provide you with a personalised treatment programme
